For generations, people looking for entertainment in Taiwan have turned to puppet theater. Though deeply rooted in classical Chinese literature and legend, this is a theatrical style that has in recent times embedded itself in Taiwan’s soil and evolved into a modern art form found nowhere else. Taiwanese puppetry is the subject of a new exhibit at the National Taiwan Museum, and with me to discuss it today is museum curator Chen Wan-ping.
